The short version. Family Budget runs on your device. Your budget is stored on your phone, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to turn on syncing so a second phone in your household sees the same figures. There is no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.
Family Budget is made by George Carfi, an individual developer. Questions about this policy or about your data go to gpc115@gmail.com.
The app is usable in full without an account. If you never sign in, nothing in this section applies to you and no data leaves your phone.
Signing in exists for one reason: to keep two phones in the same household showing the same budget. If you sign in, these are collected:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To send you a one-time sign-in code, and to identify which household you belong to. It is linked to your account. It is never used for advertising or tracking, and you will not be emailed anything else. |
| Your budget data | Budget lines, transactions, goals, properties, debts, assets and net worth figures, so the other phone in your household can show them. Stored as your own content and readable only by members of your household. |
The app can look at your device calendar to spot events that tend to cost money — a wedding, a birthday — so it can set money aside beforehand. This happens only if you grant calendar permission, and only when you open that feature.
Calendar events are read on your phone and never leave it. They are not uploaded, not synced, and not visible to anyone else, including the developer. You can withdraw the permission at any time in iOS Settings.
The app does not track you. Nothing is shared with data brokers, advertisers or any third party for their own purposes, and nothing about you is linked to your activity in other apps or on other websites. Your data is never sold.
If you turn on syncing, the data described above is stored in a database hosted by Supabase, on servers in the United States. Supabase acts only as the host; they do not use your data for their own purposes. No other third party receives any of it.
Synced data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account from inside the app at any time:
Settings → Sharing with your partner → Delete account.
Deleting your account removes your sign-in, your membership of the household, and — once the last member has left — the household's synced records. It does not require emailing anyone.
The budget stored on your own phone is deliberately left alone when you delete your account, because stopping syncing and losing your budget are not the same request. Clearing that is a separate, clearly labelled button in Settings, and uninstalling the app removes it too.
Family Budget is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes affecting data already collected will be surfaced in the app rather than only here.
